River stone, or river rock, refers to a diverse group of rocks that have been worn and rounded by the action of moving water. They are naturally smooth on the surface and have no sharp edges. They come in a range of sizes from 8mm (3/8”) to 13cm (5”), and a variety of colors from grey and black to beige and white, russet, and even red and green due to their different composites.
Unlike most people might think that the river stones are found on beaches or in rivers or streams, ours are actually quarried from mountains which used to be river beds of the Yangtze River and its tributaries, Qinhuai River and Chuhe River, in the very ancient times. They go through a series of sieves to be divided into different size ranges; and later to be divided again, by hand this time, into different colors. One size and color by another, they are put into a vibratory tumbler together with emery to get polished and reach a glossy finish. Polishing can bring out the speckles, striations and color variations that occur naturally in the river rocks. This process normally lasts from 3 to 48 hours according to different polishing effects as per requirements. The stones are well cleaned with water before packing.
• Visually Dynamic & Versatile:
River rocks have long been popular for use in landscaping applications as they serve a wide variety of different purposes. They could be used to line pathways, or create a trail for people to walk on directly. They work great as an edging material to define flower beds and gardens. Outdoor water features get a magnificent upgrade when river rocks are added to the design. They can also serve as a durable alternative to mulch that won’t need to be replaced year after year. Tawny stones add warmth, while white stones and black ones generate contrast. River rocks can help to create a rustic and natural dry creek bed. They can also add a peaceful and zen-like quality to your outdoor design. Each size group of the river rock is able to perform its own unique set of functions to meet different landscaping needs and desires. And the neutral and attractive color palette ensures that they will compliment any property.
• Low Maintenance & Long Lasting:
Unlike grass or other plants, rocks require little to no maintenance -- no need to water nor mow, and are instantly satisfying -- no need to wait for them to mature like a shrub or tree. Having a virtually endless life span, river rocks as mulch don’t require routine replacement. It is much more cost effective in the long run.
• Improve Drainage:
River rocks can be used to direct water toward an area where you want it to go. And also, their rounded shape does not fit snugly together to create a compact surface, water can easily pass through them and seep into the ground.
Polished river stones are a stylish choice for indoor decorating projects. Not only they can simply be used in vases, floral arrangements, terrariums, and top dressings in potted plants; but also they can be incorporated in the interior designs such as a rustic kitchen isle, a spa-like bathtub drainage bed or shower outline, or a tiny but peaceful balcony garden or living room corner.
